Today South Koreans announced that they were again going to slaughter whales in the name of "scientific research".Funnily enough, in the next breath they say whaling has been part of their culture for hundreds of years and is a tradition they want to continue, at least get your stories straight. They can come up with all the excuses in the world, the minke whale population has now increased, the whales are eating all the fish making it hard for fisherman to make a living, but none of these excuses make it right. What it all comes down to is greed. The South Koreans will be paid thousands of dollars for the whale meat they sell to restaurants throughout Asia, but because of the lack of demand for the meat, it will sit in freezers, so what is the point of it all? Japan and South Korea are not the only countries to kill whales. Norway and Iceland also partake in the slaughter of whales but because it occurs within their own waters it goes generally unnoticed. When are governments around the world going to stop worrying about being politically correct and stand up to these countries killing the worlds whales. If it wasn't for the activists getting it out there preventing this barbaric killing, the whales would be even more endangered than they already are. The cruel way they are slaughtered is also an issue, many still alive when hauled aboard the ships. Who can forget the image of the whale giving birth as she was dragged aboard a Japanese whaling ship.
It breaks my heart seeing these gentle warm blooded animals being killed unnecessarily.The reason these countries continue to slaughter whales is greed and pride. Their pride will not let them back down and admit they are doing the wrong thing, they are afraid of losing face. Well "Get over it" you ARE doing the wrong thing....
